A lot has been written and spoken about the safety of women in public places and public transportation. However, cases of women and girls getting molested in buses and trains have become common news. It's shameful to say the least. CCTV cameras were introduced and installed in order to get rid of the problem, but its lack of availability on public transportation hasn't helped matters either.

In a similar case, an 18-year-old woman was allegedly molested in the wee hours on an Mumbai-bound express train on 28 January. The victim tweeted to police about her "harassment by an unidentified molester" while she was travelling in the Konark Express. "Following the tweet, a case under section 354(assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC was registered. Police visited her residence in Nallasopara (in neighbouring Palghar district)and recorded her statement," the officer said quoting the tweet.
The accused boarded the train at Thane station, allegedly touched the woman inappropriately and tried to push her out, another police official said, adding that the alleged incident occurred near the basin in the compartment. The man fled after the woman raised the alarm, following which other passengers rushed to her aid.
One will be mistaken to think that it's only commoners who have to suffer from this horrible experience. On 1 February, the Thrissur police in Kerala, arrested a 40-year old man on charges of misbehaving with a young actress while travelling train. According to the police the alleged incident had happened in the Maveli Express going from Mangalore to Thiruvananthapuram. The actress was travelling from Kannur to Thiruvananthapuram and the accused was travelling from Tirur to Thiruvananthapuram.
