New Delhi, Jun 29: The Delhi-Meerut expressway, which were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month, couldn't even face the first spell of pre-monsoon rains. A crack has emerged on a side of the Delhi-Meerut expressway and later a major portion of the road sunk in following rainfall.
Pictures of sunken portion of the Delhi-Meerut expressway are widely shared on social media with netizens questioning the poor construction. Engineers working on reconstruction reportedly blamed water from the drains for the breaking down of the highway.
Since the very first showers left the Delhi-Meerut expressway damaged, people are wondering what will be its condition when monsoon will strike with full force. It remains to be seen how functional will it be during the entire monsoon. More cracks on the highway can invite major tragedy.
PM Modi inaugurated a 9 kilometre stretch of the Delhi-Meerut expressway and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway on May 27. Ahead of the inauguration, PM Modi held a spectacular road-show on the Delhi-Meerut expressway and then flew to Baghpat to inaugurate the Eastern Peripheral Expressway.
