Dead Body, Undetected, Rots in Tunnel of Delhi Metro's Airport Line For Over Four Months

New Delhi, Feb 23: In a major security breach, a dead body of a man was found in the tunnel of Delhi Metro's highly protected Airport line. Reports, citing officials, said the decomposed body was rotting for over four months before being found by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) personnel.
The body was recovered on February 9 between the New Delhi and Shivaji Stadium stations, Delhi Police said. Preliminary investigation revealed the body had been rotting in the tunnel for four-five months, as it has been reduced to bones by the time it was found.
The cause of death, however, could not be determined yet.
The DMRC said the spot where the body was recovered is located 300 metres away from the tracks. The airport line is covered with platform screen doors, which make the tracks inaccessible. Officials claimed the area is routinely inspected, which makes it a "mystery" how the body was left unfound for over four months.
The CCTVs located on the airport line were not useful as they do not store data beyond 30 days.
The possibility of the deceased being a DMRC or CISF worker has been ruled out as no missing complaint was registered in the past six months.
