Bhopal, June 25: A Dalit man was reportedly beaten up in Madhya Pradesh's Bundelkhand region for riding his motorcycle past the village sarpanch's house.

The incident occurred on June 21 in Dharampur village, located in Tikamgarh district. The victim, identified as Dayaram Ahirwar, was allegedly thrashed while returning home from the local market.

Tikamgarh SP Kumar Prateek confirmed the registration of an FIR based upon the complaint of Ahirwar. The attackers have been booked under the IPC sections for wrongful confinement, abuse, threat to kill, along with the provisions of SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.

In the FIR, the sarpanch's name has not been included. The complaint copy mentions Vinod, Munnu and Annirudha -- the brothers of the sarpanch, along with Dinesh Yadav, a local. The four of them were arrested on Monday.

Reports alleged the police had initially refused to lodge an FIR after being approached by Ahirwar. However, the video of his assault going viral on social media compelled the police to take cognisance and register the case.

Ahirwar claimed the sarpanch had threatened to bomb his house if he dares to ride the motorcycle against past his bunglow.

The sarpanch's kin, however, claim the attack on Ahirwar was in retaliation as he had assaulted on their relatives in the market place earlier on Thursday.
