Tamil Nadu, November 19: DMK President MK Stalin has announced that the party will donate Rs 1 crore for relief work and rehabilitation in the Gaja Cyclone. The death toll shot to 45. Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Saturday, while speaking to reporters at Salem, said that 20 men, 11 women, and two children died due to the cyclone that crossed the Tamil Nadu coast between Nagapattinam and Vedaranyam districts between 12.30 a.m. and 2.30 a.m. on Friday. The cyclone caused major destruction in Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Cuddalore, Pudukkottai and Ramanathapuram districts of the southern state. As the cyclone uprooted several trees, electricity poles and transformers in the region, the power supply has been disrupted in the region. Due to the disruption, the district administration has announced holidays for schools on November 19. The exams scheduled for Monday by the Anna University and its affiliated colleges have been postponed to December 15.
