Kolkata, April 11: Hasin Jahan, the estranged wife of cricketer Mohammad Shami, has filed a case against the pacer at Alipore court in Kolkata and demanded a Rs 10 lakh maintenance per month from Shami for herself and daughter. Jahan had accused Mohammad Shami and his family of assaulting her physically and torturing her mentally. She had later also levelled allegations of match-fixing and being in affair with a Pakistani fan. The BCCI cleared him of the match-fixing allegations after an inquiry.

According to a report in The Times of India, the Alipore court, which was hearing the case related to Domestic Violence under the Domestic Violence Act 2005, has instructed Shami and others named in the case to present themselves in the court on or before 15 days from the day of receiving the summons to present their side of the story.  Zakir Hussain, the lawyer of Hasin Jahan has said that they had approached the court of additional chief judicial magistrate and they were sent to the court of the third magistrate for a quick hearing.

The lawyer further claimed that the magistrate heard their petition and passed an order of show-cause to the (defendant) opposite party. Hussain said that the court asked Shami’s counsel and legal team as to why should an exparte order not be passed against them if they fail to appear before the court within 15 days of receiving the notice. “The next date of hearing is May 4” said the lawyer to The Times of India.

According to the report, the lawyer told court that Shami being a prominent cricketer earns around Rs 100 crores per year and hence it should not be a big deal for him to pay Haseen Jahan a maintenance of Rs 10 lakhs per month which would include the amount for taking care of Shami’s daughter too. They have asked for Rs 7 lakh for Haseen Jahan and Rs 3 lakh for taking care of the expenses of the child. There has been no reply from Mohammad Shami or his legal representatives so far.
