New Delhi, October 3: Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court was sworn-in as the new Chief Justice of India (CJI) on Wednesday after the retirement of CJI Dipak Misra on October 1. According to an asset declaration as reported in Times Now, it was found that Justice Gogoi owns no gold jewellery and the ones that his wife owns were gifted to her by her parents and relatives at the time of their wedding. Former CJI Dipak Misra also has owns two gold rings, which he wears, and a gold chain. He owns a flat that is under a mortgage. As reported in a TOI article, Misra has another house in Cuttack, which was constructed over a decade ago before he became a High Court judge. The two SC judge had declared their assets in 2012.
Gogoi will have a tenure of a little over 13 months and would retire on November 17, 2019. The 63-year old CJI took the oath as the new CJI in a brief ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan which was administered by President Ram Nath Kovind and became the 46th Chief Justice of India.
