Mumbai, Mar 15: Former Maharashtra deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal, shifted from state-run J J Hospital to civic-managed KEM on Tuesday, is suspected to be suffering from pancreatitis.

Bhujbal, who is jailed for alleged involvement in the Rs 870 crore Maharashtra Sadan scam, was first rushed to JJ on March 3, after he complained of severe abdominal and stomach ailments.

Based upon his plea before the court, the jail authorities were instructed to shift him to KEM Hospital.

In a series of tests conducted on him on Wednesday, it was revealed that Bhujbal is suspected to be suffering from inflammation in pancreas.

Among the tests conducted him on include Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) and Gastroenterology (GI), reports said.

Bhujbal, once a tall leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), has been reeling in jail since 2016, after a committee enquiring charges against him in the Maharashtra Sadan scam found incrementing evidence.

Bhujbal has been frequented to hospitals over the past two years, as he has complained of asthma and respiratory problems, apart from stomach and abdomen ailments.

The NCP has accused the BJP-led government in the state of unleashing vendetta against him. "Bhujbal should be released from the jail. He is being framed under frivolous charges," NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik had said.
