According to a Bloomberg report, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to delay year-end bonuses to heads of top private banks in view of the questions it has raised regarding lenders’ performance issues. The list has the names of top bankers including ICICI Bank MD and CEO Chanda Kochhar, Axis Bank MD Shikha Sharma and HDFC CEO Aditya Puri, whose year-end bonuses will get affected.

Reportedly, ICICI Kochhar was pegged to get a year-end bonus of Rs 2.2 crore, while Axis Bank’s Shikha Sharma was set to receive Rs 1.35 crore and HDFC Bank’s Aditya Puri was set to get Rs 2.9 crore, as per exchange filings. RBI has decided to crack their whip, after immense corruption is surfacing from the financial services sector. It all started with Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi allegedly duping Punjab National Bank, of over Rs 13,000 crore. Also scams and high profile names have come to the front in the last few days.

ICICI Bank's Kochhar has been questioned several times in the last few weeks, for the bank's alleged involvement in the issuance of the Rs. 3,250-crore loan to the Videocon Group in 2012. Infact, with the whistle-blowers levelling pro quo charge against Kochhar in connection with the above mentioned case, her future at the helm of the bank looks in jeopardy as the board is reportedly contemplating over cutting short her tenure.
