Lucknow, Feb 13: The Lucknow University has instructed students to remain away from the campus on February 14, 2018, when the varsity will remain closed to observe Mahashivratri. The advisory issued by the university says the decision to observe a holiday tomorrow is intended to curb the "western influence" of Valentine's Day.
The advisory further warns students of "disciplinary action" if they are found on the campus on Feb 14, or violating the varisty's order in any other manner.
“Over the past few years, it's been observed that under the influence of Western culture, youth are celebrating 14.2.2018 as Valentine's Day. All students are hereby informed that on 14.2.2018, the university will remain closed on the occasion of Maha Shivratri,” the notice said.

The university has also asked parents to ensure their wards do not leave for the varsity on Wednesday.
A similar order was issued by the varsity in 2014, when it issued a list of dos' and don'ts' for the students to "prevent misbehaviour" on the Valentine's Day. In 2009, the university denied permission to bring bouquets, flowers or gifts on the campus on Feb 14.
