New Delhi, October 26: Over the last few days, there has been intense drama in the corridors of CBI. The government sent CBI top bosses Alok Verma and Rakesh Asthana on forced leave following allegations and counter-allegations of corruption. M Nageshwar Rao has been appointed as the interim director of the agency. According to an ANI update, Delhi Trinamool Congress will join the Congress party protest led by Rahul Gandhi at Central Bureau of Investigation headquarters against the removal of Verma. Security is tightened and barricaded outside CBI headquarters ahead of the protests. Congress to Protest on October 26 Across Country Over CBI Row.

On Thursday, the government clarified that Verma and Asthana, who have been divested of their powers, continue to be the Director and Special Director respectively of the agency. The Supreme Court will take up the petition of Alok Verma against the Government order sending him on a forced long leave and divesting him of all his power. Asthana and Verma were at loggerheads on several issues and accused each other of blocking several important cases to be heard. The CBI had recently filed an FIR against Asthana for allegedly accepting a bribe from a businessman, who was linked to Moin Akhtar Qureshi case. Asthana was heading the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that was probing Qureshi's case.
