New Delhi, October 24: Earlier in the day, CBI appointed M Nageshwar Rao as the interim director of the investigative agency. The top bosses, Alok Verma and special director, Rakesh Asthana have been sent on leave. In a tweet, Rahul Gandhi has commented on the issue and has said, "It is quite evident what the PM wants to convey, those coming in the way of Rafale, will be removed from the path." The Narendra Modi government on Wednesday gave its first reaction on the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) turmoil, saying that a fair investigation was essential to maintain the institutional integrity of the probe agency.  Tarun Gauba, who had earlier probed the Dera Sacha Sauda case, will now investigate allegations against Asthana. Other than Gauba, SP Satish Dagar and Joint Director V Murugesan will probe charges against Asthana. AK Bassi, the officer probing the case against special director Rakesh Asthana has been transferred to Port Blair in public interest, the agency has said. 13 officers have been reportedly transferred within hours of the government divesting Asthana and CBI director Alok Verma of all charges.
