CBI Seeks Court Nod For Narco Analysis Test on Karti Chidambaram
Karti, whose father was then heading the Finance Ministry in the erstwhile government, is accused of receiving kickbacks from Indrani to the tune of Rs 3 crore, via companies to which he was indirectly linked.
New Delhi, Mar 7: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday filed a fresh petition before the Patiala House court here seeking permission to conduct narco analysis test on Karti Chidambaram, the son of former finance minister P Chidambaram, held in connection to the INX Media case.
A special bench headed by Justice Sunil Rana is scheduled to hear the matter on March 9. The CBI counsel has also moved two additional applications seeking production warrants of Karti's chartered accountant S Bhaskaran and former INX media promoter Indrani Mukerjea, who allegedly paid kickbacks to Karti for evading the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) norms.
Karti, whose father was then heading the Finance Ministry in the erstwhile government, is accused of receiving kickbacks from Indrani to the tune of Rs 3 crore, via companies to which he was indirectly linked.
Using his clout in the Finance Ministry back in 2007-08, Karti ensured no action was taken against INX Media despite rules being flouted by the firm, claims the FIR registered by the CBI.
On Tuesday, the court extended Karti's custody by three more days as the CBI said his detention is essential to maintain conformity in the case.
During the proceedings, the CBI counsel said Karti has so far remained non-cooperative. "To every other question being posed, he replies back saying 'It is political vendetta'," the agency's lawyer said.
