Mumbai, July 5: Less than a week after the mysterious deaths of 11 members of a family in Burari, a similar incident has come to light in Maharashtra's Raigad district. On Wednesday, police found five members of a family in a critical condition at their home. They allegedly attempted suicide by consuming phenyl.

Around midnight, five members of the family including two babies consumed phenyl mixed with soft drinks. In the morning a neighbour came for some work but received no response on ringing their doorbell. Neighbours then called the cops who found them lying on the living room floor, reported NDTV.

The police have not found any suicide note and are trying to know reason behind the suicide attempt. According to neighbours, the family was financially sound. The three adults were identified as Ramchandra Patil (60), Ranjana Patil (50) and their daughter-in-law daughter Savita. They are said to be in the ICU in a critical condition.

Ten of the 11 members of the Bhatia family were found hanging from an iron-mesh in the ceiling in Burari on Sunday, while the body of 77-year-old Narayan Devi was lying on the floor in another room of the house. The family was not expecting to die and thought that "the earth will shake" and "there will be thunder in the sky", following which they will be saved.
