Building Collapses in Jodhpur, Around Dozen Feared Trapped
The fire brigade personnel, along with local police and civic officials have been pressed into action to expedite the rescue operation.
Jaipur, May 22: A three-floored building collapsed in Jodhpur's bustling Sardarpura region on Tuesday. Over a dozen people were feared trapped beneath the debris, while three had been successfully pulled out. The rescue operation was underway by the time this report was published.
The building which collapsed is located on the B-road, a busy locality in Sardarpura which houses both commercial and residential establishments. The collapse, according to preliminary reports, was triggered by the construction underway on the adjoining plot.
Reports claimed digging operation was underway on the plot -- to lay the foundations -- when the collapse was reported.
The ill-fated building which came down housed a general accessories store on the ground floor. At least 3-5 people were in the shop when the building collapsed, reports said, apart from nearly 8 residents who were present inside their homes.
The fire brigade personnel, along with local police and civic officials have been pressed into action to expedite the rescue operation.
An inquiry will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of the building collapse, said the police, adding that action would be taken against all those involved.
