A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court has sentenced all convicts in the Bodh Gaya serial bomb blast case to life imprisonment. According to reports, on July 7, 2013, nine serial bomb blasts had rocked the Buddhist pilgrim town of Bodh Gaya in which five, including two monks, were injured.
According to a report in Hindu, NIA special court judge Manoj Kumar Sinha has sentenced 14 years of imprisonment to one of the convict, Haider Ali, and three years imprisonment to another convict Omair Siddiqui. The court also imposed Rs 10,000 fine on all the convicts.
The court, on May 25, convicted Imtiyaz Ansari, Haider Ali, Mujib Ullah, Omair Siddiqui and Azharuddin Qureishi under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, Unlawful Activity (Prevention) Act and the Explosives Act. The sixth accused, Taufique Ahmed, a juvenile then, was earlier sentenced to three years of confinement to a remand home.
A series of bombs had exploded at a massive election rally of then Gujarat chief minister and now Prime Minister Narendra Modi, killing six people and injuring 89.
