BJP's Shabir Ahmad Bhat Shot Dead by Terrorists in J&K's Pulwama
A case has been registered and police have launched an operation to hunt the terrorists.
Jammu and Kashmir, August 22: Shabir Ahmad Bhat, who is affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was shot dead by terrorists at around 2:30 am today at his home in Pulwama's Rakh-e-litter, according to an ANI report. Reportedly, Bhat, was inside his house when a few heavily armed terrorists entered his house and fired bullets at him, and he died on the spot. A case has been registered and police have launched an operation to hunt the terrorists. According to an NDTV report, he was kidnapped on Tuesday evening and a massive manhunt was launched to track him down. The government announced municipal and panchayat elections in the state last week. Bhat was the resident of Bongam area in Shopian. More details on the case are awaited.
On Tuesday, Satya Pal Malik, who is currently the Governor of Bihar, has been deputed to J&K. The 71-year-old replaces NN Vohra, who has been serving as the Governor of the insurgency-hit state since 2008. The Centre on Tuesday appointed new Governors for 7 states - Jammu & Kashmir, Bihar, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Tripura, Sikkim and Meghalaya.
