BJP-PDP Split in Jammu & Kashmir: 'Muscular Policy Won't Work in Valley', Says Ousted CM Mehbooba Mufti

Mehbooba Mufti said she, as the Chief Minister of J&K, was committed towards "healing the wounds" in the Valley. "We wanted cordial relations with the Valley. We wanted Article 370 to remain. We took back cases registered against 11,000 stone-pelters. For the past 3-4 years, we stuck to our stand," she said.
"The coalition of BJP-PDP was against the will of our people, especially in the Valley. We had contemplated long over the alliance. But the pact was inked by late Mufti Muhammad Saeed saheb considering that the BJP is a large party and has received a massive mandate at the Centre. We believed that such a coalition will work towards bringing a long-lasting solution to the conflict in the Valley," Mehbooba Mufti said.
Mehbooba Mufti is addressing the press conference, shortly after submitting her resignation to the Governor. The coalition of BJP-PDP government was pulled down today after the former retracted its support to the Chief Minister.
Shortly after the PDP-BJP alliance fall apart, Home Minister Rajnath Singh called a high-level meeting with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief Rajiv Jain and Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba.

She was presiding over a government which would destroying Kashmir each and every day. I wish she would had walked out with dignity, rather being shunted out in this manner," the NC president said.
Training guns at the BJP, Omar Abdullah said the party cannot put the entire onus on PDP for the "rising radicalism and militancy" in Kashmir. "They were part of the government and they both failed J&K in equal measures," Abdullah said.
National Conference president Omar Abdullah said he will not extend outside support to the PDP to form the government in Jammu & Kashmir. "I met the Governor a short while ago and told him that the NC does not have the mandate to form the government. Therefore, the only option before us is to allow the Governor to takeover governance in the state. But, we will also appeal the Governor to conduct fresh elections shortly," he said.
National Conference's working president Omar Abdullah is addressing a press conference on the political turmoil in Jammu & Kashmir. Nearly a hour earlier, Abdullah met Governor NN Vohra to discuss the political situation in the state.
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, who is at loggerheads with the ruling BJP, said the latter is "running away" from Kashmir after causing unprecedented damage to the state. "Didn’t BJP tell us that demonetisation had broken the back of terrorism in Kashmir? Then what happened," he added.
Ousted chief minister Mehbooba Mufti will address a press conference shortly in summer capital Srinagar. Earlier, BJP's Ram Madhav told reporters that the alliance failed in implementing the common minimum programme which compelled the party to pull-out from the government.
Srinagar, June 19: Two days after the Centre ended the unprecedented Ramzan ceasefire called in Jammu & Kashmir, the government of PDP-BJP has been brought down in the state. Although the immediate cause of the split is yet to be ascertained, sources privy to the development said Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was disappointed with the Narendra Modi government resuming the search-and-eliminate operation against the militants in the Valley. The exit was first announced by the BJP at around 2pm on Monday, with the party's general secretary Ram Madhav shortly addressing the press and saying, "The PDP-BJP government is untenable. We are quitting as the common minimum programme could not be implemented."
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti shortly submitted her resignation to Governor NN Vohra after the BJP announced its exit from the coalition running the government.
The Congress, whose support may allow the PDP to remain in power, said it has no intentions of restoring Mehbooba Mufti as the CM. "There is no question of extending support to the PDP," senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said.

Reacting to the political turmoil in J&K, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi said the BJP is running away from responsibilities. "Narendra Modi cannot hide from mistakes. They have committed a blunder in J&K and now they want to escape," the Hyderabad MP said.
