BJP MLA Manganlal Shah, Representing Uttarakhand's Tharali Seat, Dies at 64
Shah was suffering from prolonged illness, being treated for liver disease since the past few months at the Jolly Grant Medical College in Dehradun.
Dehradun, Feb 26: An elected legislator of the Uttarakhand assembly died in Dehradun on Sunday. The deceased, Manganlal Shah, was an MLA of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The 64-year-old was representing the seat of Tharali, in Chamoli district, since 2007.
Shah was suffering from prolonged illness, being treated for liver disease since the past few months at the Jolly Grant Medical College in Dehradun. On Sunday, however, he succumbed to his illness.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat expressed disappointment over the demise of Shah. On being informed about his death, the CM rushed to the hospital in Dehradun. Speaking to reporters, Rawat said he is anguished by the demise of Shah, recalling him as an honest representative of the public.
The funeral of Shah will be held on Monday. Leaders cutting across party lines will be paying their final tributes to the late legislator.
His death has also necessitate repolling in the Tharali assembly segment. The bypoll will be conducted by the Election Commission within the next six months.
