In the latest development of the BJP leader, S. Ve. Shekher's sexist post on Facebook, where he maligned and assassinated the characters of women journalists, he has issued a statement over the derogatory comments made by him. As per a report on ANI, he is quoted as saying, "I had posted it without reading the message. It was removed immediately after my friend pointed it out. If I had hurt anyone, it was not on purpose & I extend my heartfelt apology."

According to reports, in his original post, Shekher stated that the journalist Lakshmi Subramanian has accused the Governor, with the solve motive to defame the BJP government. Some outrageous statements made by him are- “The Governor should wash his hands with phenyle for touching her.” "Illiterate scoundrels are now in media, she (senior female journalist Subramanian) is not an exception to that. Sexual abuses are more in media than in educational institutions. No one can become a reporter or news anchor without sleeping with some big shots. I respect few those who are exceptions, however, most in TN media are blackmailers and cheap people,” he adds.

This comes on the back of Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit patting on the cheeks of a female journalist during a press conference at Raj Bhavan. It flared up after the journalist  Subramanian raised objection to his behaviour. The governor apologised and termed it as a 'grand-fatherly' affection towards her. The journalist took to Twitter to announce that she has accepted his apology, but was not convinced about Purohit's intention.

Commenting on S.Ve. Shekher's comments, KT Raghavan, BJP State secretary has been been quoted in a ANI report saying, "He has now deleted the post end of the matter. It is a good gesture from his side we must appreciate it. Party won't advocate these types of things."
