Bihar Judge Accused of Beating up Daughter, Putting Her Under House Arrest Over 'Love Affair'; Patna High Court Intervenes

Patna, June 25: A judge in Bihar's Khagaria district is accused of thrashing his daughter and putting her under house arrest over her 'love affair' with a Delhi-based lawyer. The Patna High Court has taken cognisance of the case and asked a team of police officials to bring the girl before the bench at 2:15pm tomorrow.
The accused judge, identified as Subhash Chandra Chaurasia, is posted at the district and sessions court in Khagaria. His law graduate daughter Yashaswini, 24, is allegedly confined to her house due to her relationship with 25-year-old advocate Siddharth Bansal.
The Patna High Court bench, headed by Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice Rajeev Ranjan Prasad took suo moto cognizance of a report in a news portal 'Bar & Bench', which stated the alleged atrocities being committed against the girl in Khagaria.
The report quotes Bansal as saying that he heard Yashaswini being beaten up when he made a phone call to her. The lawyer further claims that Justice Chaurasia had called him for a meeting and said he could marry his daughter only if he becomes a judge or clears the civil services exam.
The high court has asked Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to head the team which would bring the girl from Khagaria to Patna tomorrow. The court said her parents could be brought along only if she desires.
The court has also appointed senior advocate Anukriti Jaipuriyar as the amicus curiae in the case. Jaipuriyar has also been mandated to interact with the girl and find the difficulties she is facing.
