Gaya, April 1: Three persons, an elderly couple and their 21-year-old daughter-in-law, were run over by a train here following which angry locals squatted on the tracks and disrupted rail traffic for a couple of hours on Monday morning, police said. The mishap took place at Ismailpur railway station when Ramji Yadav (62), his wife Munka Devi (58) and their daughter-in-law Soni Devi (21) were trying to cross the tracks on Sunday night, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Gaya Railway, Sunil Kumar, said.
He said the deceased were residents of Jayanagar village under the jurisdiction of Gurua police station of the district. Residents of the village squatted on the tracks demanding adequate compensation for the family members of the deceased. As a result, rail traffic was disrupted for two hours, officials said. Traffic was restored at 8.30 am after railway authorities reached the spot and told the protesters that their demands would be met, the DSP said.
