Mumbai, January 31: At least 16 godowns were gutted in a massive fire on Wednesday morning in an industrial township of Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. Seven fire tenders were rushed on spot immediately. As per reports, the incident took place in Bhiwandi's Gayatri Nagar locality. Several houses too were engulfed in the blaze, no casualties were reported. The cause of blaze is yet not certain. However, the investigation is underway.

Thane Municipal Corporation's regional disaster management cell chief Santosh Kadam was quoted by PTI saying that firefighters from Bhiwandi, Kalyan and Ulhasnagar rushed to control the blaze.
District Disaster Management Control (DDMC) chief Asmita Nikam was quoted by News18 saying that the blaze started at around 10 AM in one of the godowns and later spread to 15 other storage units located in the area.
In December 2017, a similar fire broke in a plastic godown at Sagar Complex in Ovali village. The massive fire spread to 15 adjoining godowns at a warehousing complex in Bhiwandi.
