Lucknow, Aug 30: A 22-year-old man was lynched by a mob over suspicion of sealing a buffalo. The deceased was identified as Shahrukh Khan who succumbed to injuries after beaten up by the crowd. The incident took place at Bholapur Hindoliya village in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh in the early hours of Wednesday. The villagers alleged Shahrukh Khan, along with his three friends was stealing a buffalo.
The incident came to light when the mob handed over four youths to the police after brutally thrashing them. Villagers said the youths were caught red-handed while stealing a buffalo. Critically injured youths were admitted to a hospital where Shahrukh Khan died during treatment in the hospital. Khan, who used to work at an embroidery unit, had come from Dubai a month back. According to the family members of Khan, he received a call from one of his friends at night and went out. However, he didn't return home by morning, and his family got worried. Later, the police informed them that Khan was admitted to the hospital. His family also denied his involvement in the cattle theft case. "Shahrukh Khan and his three aides, Majid, Pappu and one unidentified person, were in the process of stealing a buffalo from the house of a local farmer named Gajendra Pal around 3 am on Wednesday. However, the farmer spotted them and raised an alarm. Within minutes, a crowd of nearly 50 villagers gathered there. While his aides managed to flee, Khan was caught and was severely thrashed for several hours," Bareilly Superintendent of Police Abhinandan Singh was quoted as saying.
“We rescued him around 6 am and rushed him to the hospital, where he later died. Based on a complaint by the farmer and the deceased’s brother, a case has been registered against Khan’s accomplices and 30 unidentified villagers,” the SP (city) added. According to the post-mortem report, Shahrukh Khan died of internal injuries to his liver and kidneys.
