Mumbai, August 31: The Ministry of Finance has issued an advisory that banks will not be closed for 6 days in the first week of Septemeber 2018 as being spread by numerous social media posts. The press release highlighted that due to the rumours and the fake messages, there is undue panic among the people. According to the release, "Banks will only observe holidays on Sunday, 2nd September and second Saturday, 8th September. Monday, 3rd September is not a pan India holiday and banks only in some States where a holiday is declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 will remain closed."

The release further highlighted that ATMs in all the states will be fully functional and there will be no impact on online banking transactions. The Ministry of Finance has further advised banks to ensure that sufficient cash is available for dispensation from ATMs, and banks will be open on all the other days.
