PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid homage to Shiv Sena's founder Bal Thackeray on his 91st birth anniversary.
Mumbai, January 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today, paid rich tribute to Bal Thackeray on his 91st birth anniversary.
On his Twitter account, PM said, “Remembering Balasaheb Thackeray on his birth anniversary. He will always be remembered as a brave leader who worked tirelessly towards fulfilling the aspirations of people.” Thackeray was the founder of Shiv Sena, a regional political party in Maharashtra.
One of the most revered figures in Indian Politics, Bal Thackeray was a professional cartoonist before he began his political career. He worked for ‘The Free Press Journal’ before leaving it to begin his own political weekly ‘Marmik’.
Bal Thackeray was one of the top politicians in his home-state Maharashtra and is still remembered for his work and welfare for different sections of society. His political ideology was largely driven by his father, Keshav Sitaram Thackeray, who was also a known-figure in the Samyukta Maharashtra (United Maharashtra) movement. The movement advocated the idea of a separate semantic state.
A godly-figure for the people of Maharashtra, former Sena chief advocated against the increasing influence of non-Maharashtrians in the state, through his political weekly – Marmik. Initially, his professional and political career saw him fighting for the interests of Maharashtrian people in his state. It was in the year 1966 that he decided to formally launch a political party – Shiv Sena – for the same cause.
