New Delhi, Aug 17: A confusion was prevailing among Muslims over Bakra Eid 2018 Date in India. While Muslims in Delhi were to celebrate Bakra Eid, Bakrid or Eid-ul-Adha 2018 on Thursday, August 23, mosques in several other parts of the country announced to celebrate the festival on Wednesday, August 22. The confusion over Bakra Eid 2018 Date in India emerged as the moon was sighted in several parts of the country on Sunday, August 12, while it was not spotted in the national capital.

Bakra Eid falls on the 10th day on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah month. On the evening of August 12, Muslims across the India tried to sight the crescent moon which would mark the beginning of Dhul Hijjah. Since the moon was not sighted in Delhi, some mosques announced Dhul Qadah month would complete 30 days, Dhul Hijjah month will begin from August 14 and hence Bakra Eid will be celebrated 10 days later, ie. on August 23. (ALSO READ: Bakra Eid 2018: Significance And Religious History of Eid-ul-Adha)

However, in several other parts of the country, the moon was sighted, and August 22 was fixed as the date for Bakra Eid. The confusion has now cleared. A meeting was held in Delhi on August 15 where it was decided that Bakra Eid will be celebrated on August 22 across the country.

Here it may noted that the central government on Monday again changed the date for Bakra Eid holiday and declared it on August 22. Last week, it had declared Bakra Eid holiday on August 23.

"On the basis of the report of  Ruiyat Hilal (moon deciding Committee) headed by Shahi Imam, Jama Masjid, Delhi, Syed Ahmed Bukhari intimating that witnesses of sighting of moon have been received from different cities of India, it has been decided that all Central Government Administrative Offices located at Delhi/New Delhi shall remain closed on 22.08.2018 instead of 23.08.2018 on account of Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid)," a statement issued today by the Personnel Ministry said.
