Mumbai, June 25: The Mumbai police reportedly arrested a Mumbai based activist from Bajrang Dal named Sandeep Vaidya for extorting Rs. 1 lakh from a meat seller on Monday. According to a Hindustan Times news report, the accused was arrested by the police while he was accepting the instalment of Rs. 10, 000 from the victim at one of the isolated places in Mumbai.

The victim named Sohail Qureshi, complained about the accused to the police, following which the police laid a trap and caught him red handed. As per reports, the accused used to threaten the complainant stating that he has been selling beef illegally at his shop. After receiving continuous threats for his life from the Bajrang Dal man, the victim approached Mahim police station. The victim also told the police that, he is selling buffalo meat legally and sought the beef from the Deonar slaughterhouse. “The meat I sell is permitted; nevertheless, Vaidya demanded money from me by threatening that he would inform the police,” said Qureshi.

Kusum Waghmare, the senior inspector of Mahim police station, confirmed that a case had been registered under section 384 (Punishment for extortion) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused.
