Baghpat, March 22: Investigation into the suicide case of a young man in UP's Baghpat district has revealed a shocking piece of information. News has emerged from Uttar Pradesh' Baghpat district that a woman was sold for Rs 22,000 in a public auction. According to reports, the girl was sold by a group of "human" dealers who have participated in such crime previously also. This case has created a sense of insecurity in the city and police is investigating further as to how the group could get away after selling or auctioning a girl openly in public. The dealers also took away the woman after her husband failed to pay Rs 5000 of the Rs 22,000 promised as he had paid Rs 17,000 to them. The man who had married the woman after buying her, committed suicide later as he could not get back back his wife.
A case of suicide was registered in Baghpat police station and when police started investigating, the fact about the girl being sold for marriage came to light. According to reports, around a week back the girl was married to Mukesh, in Sarurpur village of Baghpat. Mukesh, who 'bought' the woman for Rs 22,000, paid Rs 17, 000 to the dealer and promised to pay the remaining 5,000 later. But when he failed to pay the remaining account, the dealer went to his house and forcefully took away Mahesh's wife. Shortly after, Mahesh committed suicide by hanging himself from a nearby tree in the village. This was revealed by Mahesh's parents and relatives in the police interrogation. It was then found by police that it's a case of human trafficking and that the gang is allegedly led by a resident of a nearby village called Monu. The modus operandi of the gang involved striking a deal with bachelor men in villages by offering to sell young girls and woman after introducing the girls to prospective buyers in the villages brick kiln sites.
Baghpat Police has confirmed the case to local newspapers and channels and said that the case is being investigated and arrests may follow soon.
