Babysitting is Not Grandparents' Duty! Pune Family Court Suggest They Have Freedom to Choose
The ruling said in today's age, when both the parents are working, grandparents can't be blamed if the children need to be placed in a creche.
Mumbai, May 22: A family court in Pune has said that babysitting is not the duty of grandparents, they should not be burdened with it in their old age. According to a Times of India report, it is the primary duty of parents to take care of their children, and grandparents may be there to assist guide, but they can't be burdened to babysit, by compromising on their relaxation and travel plans.
The court was hearing a woman's plea, where she held her in-laws responsible for having to place her children in a creche. The ruling said in today's age, when both the parents are working, grandparents can't be blamed if the children need to be placed in a creche.
According to a Times of India report, the case involves a separated couple, now in their 40s. The wife had moved to the Court to ask for maintenance for herself and the children in 2012 when both were minors. She had complained that her husband failed to provide them financial support, as a result of which, she had to resume her work, four months post the birth of her child. At that point of time, her in-laws had gone travelling, and also to visit their other son.
The family court highlighted that in today's age, it is taken for granted that grandparents are a substitute for nannies. It shouldn't be an imposed duty on grandparents, because old age is also a time when they get time for themselves.
