New Delhi, July 17: Maneka Sanjay Gandhi has instructed the state governments to get child care homes run by Missionaries of Charity all over the country inspected immediately. The Women and Child Development (WCD) Minister decided after the Jharkhand child trafficking case came to light, wherein three children were rescued after being trafficked by three nuns of the Missionaries of Charity.

According to an ANI report, Gandhi asked the state governments to ensure registration of all child care institutions (CCI) and linking them to the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) are done within next month.

On July 5, the Jharkhand Police had arrested a nun and an employee of a Ranchi-based organisation run by the Missionaries of Charity on charges of selling a baby allegedly for Rs 1.2 lakh. Sister Konsalia of Nirmal Hriday confessed to having sold three children to different persons and admitted to giving away the fourth child for 'free' to a couple.
