Mumbai, June 22: Mumbaikar may have to pay Rs. 2 more on auto and taxi fares after the state transport department reportedly decided to introduce a hike. A meeting regarding same was called on Thursday, during which the auto and taxi fare hike proposal was tabled. As per reports, the hike has been calculated in accordance with the increase in fuel-CNG rates and the cost of living.
Though the state is keen to go ahead with the hike, it has not set a date from which the hike will be applicable. Some sources reveal that the new prices will be introduced in a few days.
The move has come at an inopportune time when Mumbaikars are struggling with traffic congestion and drivers who extort more money from passengers with faulty meters. There has been barely any steps have been undertaken to increase vigilance and strict action against the offenders. Now the fare hike will add one more burden on the common man.
