Three automated teller machines (ATM) were cracked opened and looted across three different localities of Kanpur. According to a report on ANI, the dacoits used gas cutter to open the ATMs of UCO, Union Bank of India and HDFC Bank respectively. The modus operandi of the dacoits is similar for the three banks, which were attacked.

The report quotes, Akhilesh Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kanpur Nagar who assured that, “The police have found important clues and the culprits will be nabbed soon.”

Last month, there were reports of fake Rs 100 note being allegedly dispensed by an Axis Bank ATM at Marble Market located in Kanpur’s Kidwai Nagar. The fake notes had 'Children Bank of India' printed on them instead of Reserve Bank of India. On one side of the note, 'Children Bank of India' was printed, while ‘Churan label’ and ‘full of fun’ was also printed below. Local police had shut the ATM down immediately for investigation.

A similar incident took place in February 2016 where fake notes were dispensed by a Delhi ATM. The fake notes read ‘Children Bank of India’ in place of the Reserve Bank of India and ‘Guaranteed by the Children’s Government’ in place of Guaranteed by the Central Government.
