Nagaon, June 25: In a shocking case of moral policing that happened over the weekend in Assam; a couple was allegedly beaten up night-long and villagers shaved the woman's head for having an illicit affair. According to an ANI report, eight accused have been arrested in connection with the case, and the Police has further urged public not to take law and order in their own hands. Nagaon SP has been quoted in the report saying, "We have taken the incident very seriously. Total of eight persons has been arrested. Request public to not take the law into their own hands."

After the attack on them, the couple was critically injured. They were initially admitted to a local hospital at Kathiatoli and later referred to the Bhogeswari Phukanani Civil Hospital at Nagaon. Reportedly, this is the third major incident, where public took the law into their own hands.

According to the PTI report, the woman's head was tonsured other women, and their clothes were torn, and they were tortured throughout the night. The villagers alleged that both were married, and they were cheating on their respective partners.
