Arvind Kejriwal Tears Delhi Lieutenant Governor's Report on CCTV Cameras in Public, Watch Video
The report that Kejriwal tore apart was about the Delhi government's plan to install CCTV cameras in the national capital.
New Delhi, July 29: In a dramatic development, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday tore up a report of a committee formed by Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal in full public view. The report that Kejriwal tore apart was about the Delhi government's plan to install CCTV cameras in the national capital. "People want this report should be torn up," the chief minister said while trashing it.
"The report of L-G's committee whose members are police personnel, says if someone installs CCTV cameras in Delhi, even with their own money, they'll have to get license from police. License means paisa chadhao, license le jaao," Kejriwal said before tearing the report.
Earlier this month, the Supreme Court said the Lt. Governor is bound to act on the aid and advice of the Council of Ministers. Three subjects that have been kept off the Delhi government jurisdiction are land, police and public order. The 5-judge Constitution Bench had unanimously ruled that the Lt Governor was constitutionally bound by the "aid and advice" of the elected government.
The video of the incident reminds when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tore up an ordinance brought by the UPA government to protect convicted lawmakers.
