Arvind Kejriwal Announces Free Safety Kit For All Sanitation Workers to Ensure No Sewer Deaths in Delhi

Kejriwal has announced that Delhi Jal Board will provide one free safety kit each, to all sanitation workers, so that no worker - both govt and private - gets into the sewer without a safety kit. There has been a rising incident of sewer deaths in Delhi, which have time and again questioned what the government is doing to check these incidents.

New Delhi, July 16: In order to ensure that no sewer deaths take place in Delhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced that the Delhi Jal Board will provide one free safety kit each, to all sanitation workers, so that no worker - both govt and private - gets into sewer without a safety kit. The CM has been reportedly quoted saying, "The death of a worker while cleaning sewers is very saddening. We have to end this; we have to do this together. This can't be achieved by the Delhi government or Delhi Jal Board alone, this can be done only when we all work towards it."

According to an ANI report, seven people including four sanitation workers died after inhaling toxic fumes while cleaning sewer of a hotel in Vadodara district of Gujarat last month.

Last year in the month of September, five sanitation workers allegedly suffocated to death after inhaling toxic fumes while cleaning a sewer. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon when all the five people, aged between 22 and 30 years were cleaning the drain near DLF flats in west Delhi’s Moti Nagar area.
