New Delhi, June 26: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has said that now people will be able to apply for their passport from any part of the country, via the Passport Seva App. According to an ANI report, Swaraj has said that with the Passport Seva app, now not only can you apply for a passport from any part of the country, but all the other formalities can be done based on the address provided on the app. She has been quoted as saying, "Police verification will be done on the address you will give on the app. The passport will be dispatched to that address."

While terming it as a "passport revolution", Swaraj said, "I found that two things which were directly connected to the Indian citizens were a passport and visas required for undertaking Haj pilgrimage." According to an ANI report, Haj pilgrimage went to the Ministry of Minority Affairs, and the passport remained with the External Affairs Ministry.

Sushma Swaraj has been facing immense flak over not being able to handle the interfaith couple's passport issue properly. Other political leaders, as well as Twitterati, have accused Swaraj of taking a biased decision. Post the uproar which was created by the couple for getting misbehaved by a passport official at Lucknow Passport Seva Kendra; the officer was transferred with immediate effect. Later more angles to the story unfolded as the concerned officer spoke up saying that he was doing his duty and the woman applied with wrong documents. People demanded Swaraj's resignation, but the latter said that since she was out of India from 17th to 23rd June 2018, she was unaware of what was happening."
