Mumbai, June 19: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) first group leaders meeting on Monday was more about naming Andheri bridge after late Bollywood actress Sridevi than discussing issues faced by Mumbaikars during this monsoon season!

The first meeting saw leaders of various political parties mulling on a proposal to name a bridge in Andheri after late Bollywood actress Sridevi. So, if you are expecting that the meeting will come up with some concrete solution to all your monsoon woes, you are wrong!

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the leaders spoke less about rain and rain-related issues but took on priority the proposal to name a bridge in Andheri. Reports state that the proposal was tabled by the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Yogiraj Dabhadkar. The BJP leader had proposed to name the bridge at Mogra Nullah in Andheri (West) as Actress Sridevi Uddanpul.

The proposal, was, however, opposed by the opposition parties where the Congress and the Samajwadi Party said that the late veteran actress has made no known contribution towards public welfare. The proposal has however been sent back to municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta for his opinion on the matter.

According to the HT report, Ravi Raja, leader of opposition in BMC, said that there is no doubt that Sridevi was a brilliant actor, but what was her contribution towards the public? Raja further said that the proposal only informs about the films she has worked in and nothing that she has done for the welfare of people. The proposal has been sent to the civic chief for his opinion.

With the onset of monsoon, several low lying areas in Mumbai witnessed heavy rain, leaving areas waterlogged. Precautionary measures have been taken by the BMC, Western Railway and Central Railway to ensure that Mumbaikars don't face any problem. During the first rainfall of the season, the suburban train services were disrupted due to waterlogging on the tracks.
