Alwar, July 21: Days after the Supreme Court condemned lynching incidents calling them as 'horrendous act of mobocracy', a fresh incident of mob violence was reported from Rajasthan's Alwar district on Friday. A mob beat a man to death in Alwar's Ramgarh, suspecting him to be a cow smuggler. The victim was identified as Rakbar Khan who along with another man was transporting cows on foot.

Rakbar Khan and another man were allegedly transporting two cows from his native Kolganv village in Haryana to Ramgarh's Lalwandi village when a violent mob attacked them. The two were brutally beaten up and Rakbar died on the spot. "It is not clear if they were cow smugglers. The body has been sent for postmortem. We are trying to identify the culprits and arrests will be made soon," Anil Beniwal, ASP Alwar, told ANI.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje condemned the Friday night incident. "The incident of alleged lynching of a person transporting bovines in Alwar district is condemnable. Strictest possible action shall be taken against the perpetrators," Raje tweeted.

Last year, a dairy farmer was lynched by cow vigilantes in Alwar. On April 1, 55-year-old dairy farmer Pehlu Khan from Haryana was assaulted by cow vigilantes on National Highway-8. Two days later he succumbed to his injuries. Several people have been lynched by mobs in the last few months on the basis of rumours or fake news that they were child lifters. Earlier, people have been attacked and murdered on allegations of cow slaughter.

This week, the Supreme Court issued 22 guidelines for the central and state governments to put an end to "horrendous acts" of vigilantism, lynching and mobocracy and directed them to work in tandem to take "preventive, remedial and punitive measures". The apex court also suggested that Parliament enact a law categorising lynching and other forms of vigilantism as a distinct offence and providing for adequate punishment.
