According to the report, a question or OTP could also be introduced after the ‘Book Now’ button is pressed.
According to the recommendation of a new railway report, Aadhaar card may soon become mandatory to book railway tickets. According to a Mumbai Mirror report, senior officials from the Centre for Information Railway System (CRIS), Delhi, arrived in the city to interrogate one of the biggest railway ticket racket to have emerged lately. After the probe, CRIS, and IRCTC Techincal heads submitted a joint report. It suggested that to enhance the security of the ticketing systems, passenger's user ids to be linked to their Aadhaars. According to the report, a question or OTP could also be introduced after the ‘Book Now’ button is pressed
Until recently, you were being bombarded with several messages from telephone operators and banks to link your Aadhaar or get your accounts de-activated. Huge panic was created after the government announced that Aadhaar card needs to be linked to everything- from your bank accounts, SIM card to PAN card. In fact, it was also required for filing Income Tax Returns, and also letting your Paytm or FreeCharge account remain functional. On March 13, the Supreme Court, in its wisdom, extended the deadline for the linkage of bank accounts and phone numbers indefinitely, until further notice. The same was done for insurance policies as well.
Earlier this month, the government had issued instructions to operators to accept alternative identification documents such as driving licence, passport, voter ID card, and not make Aadhaar mandatory for issuance of a new SIM card. Mobile companies have been asked to follow the instructions 'immediately' so that consumers are not inconvenienced, said telecom secretary Aruna Sundararajan.
It will be interesting to see, if these measures when applicable can curb the occurrence of such scams from happening in future.
