7th Pay Commission Latest News Today: Major Updates on Hike in Minimum Pay, Fitment Factor & Arrears
The government may increase minimum to Rs 21,000 from Rs 18,000 which was recommended by the 7th Pay Commission and approved by the Cabinet.
New Delhi, July 24: In latest good news for central government employees who have been waiting for a hike in minimum pay and fitment factor beyond the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission or 7th CPC, the government has reportedly agreed for salary hike. The government may increase minimum to Rs 21,000 from Rs 18,000 which was recommended by the 7th Pay Commission and approved by the Cabinet.
The crucial development came after the Official Side of the National Anomaly Committee (NAC) accepted to remove the anomaly of the pay matrix of the central government employees. Following the development, the date August 15 assumes more significance now because according to some reports Prime Minister Narendra Modi may announce salary hike beyond the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission on that day.
The government is likely to announce pay hike but it won't give any arrears on it. "The centre will come out with a decision in this regard soon after consulting finance experts and weighing its pros and cons but ‘no arrears on higher pay will be paid to central government employees. The Finance Ministry is now considering to make only basic pay hike for the employees. Accordingly, the government will take step on the National Anomaly Committee’s agreement soon," a Finance Ministry official was quoted as saying.
Along with the hike beyond the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission, the government is likely to raise the retirement age to 62 years from 60. “The two announcements that Prime Minister Modi is likely to make in his speech from Red Fort on 15 August, the Independence Day for central government employees are an increase of pay and the raising retirement age to 62 years from 60,” another official had earlier said.
The 7th Pay Commission had recommended a 14.27 per cent hike in basic pay, increasing minimum pay from Rs 7,000 to Rs 18,000 month. The government approved the recommendations in June 2016. Since then, central government employees have been asking to raise minimum pay to Rs 26,000 and fitment factor 3.68 times from 2.57 times.
