Chennai, October 30: People in Tamil Nadu will get four days holiday at a stretch leading to Diwali. The state government has declared November 5 as a holiday for all the educational institutes. The popular festival of Diwali will be celebrated in the state on November 6. Firecrackers Allowed Only For 2 Hours on Diwali 2018, State Governments Can Decide Timing Suited to Them: Supreme Court.

According to a Times of India report, an official quoted said, "We received several demands seeking holiday on November 5, so that people will get four holidays (Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday)." In order to compensate for the holiday, the state has issued an order that said November 10 (second Saturday) will be a working day.

In other parts of the country, including North India, and other states, Diwali is being celebrated on November 7. The dates for some of the important celebrations during Diwali and after it are-Dhanteras 2018 will fall on November 5, Chhoti Diwali/Kali Puja will be celebrated on November 6. Govardhan Puja 2018 will be celebrated on November 8 and Bhai Duj or Bhai Phota is on November 9.
