World Breastfeeding Week 2019: Neha Dhupia Posts a Pic With Daughter Mehr As She Launches #FreedomToFeed Movement
Neha Dhupia took to her Instagram page to share a picture where she is breastfeeding her eight-month-old daughter Mehr. As we celebrate World Breastfeeding Week, Neha has launched the Freedom to Feed movement online. She wants the world to become a better place to facilitate breastfeeding mothers.
Neha Dhupia gave birth to her daughter eight months ago. She and her husband, Angad Bedi, named their bundle of joy, Mehr. Little did Neha know that she is about to learn about another hassle that women have to face in this world - the lack of spaces to breastfeed a child. Taking matters into her hands, Neha has started a #FreedomToFeed movement online as the World Breastfeeding Week is going on. She posted a picture with her daughter Mehr while breastfeeding her. What a brilliant and much-needed pic for today's time. We had no idea it was even possible to fall in love with Neha more. But here we are crushing over the queen stronger than ever.
While posting the picture, on her Instagram page, she narrated the time when she was on a plane with Mehr. While breastfeeding her daughter in the washroom, Neha kept worrying if the seatbelt sign would come on. She had to apologise for using the cubicle for 15 minutes. “Freedom to breastfeed a child is a basic right, which every mother deserves. We need to talk about the lack of facilities, infrastructure, and the lack of awareness here,” she said in an interview with Times of India.
Neha added, “Mums are struggling and we need to start a conversation on that. If there are smoking rooms everywhere, why not nursing rooms? We should have places that a mother can access easily whenever she has to feed her infant. It is not as if I am sitting in an ivory tower and talking about breastfeeding. I am not! I am talking just like every other mother. Breastfeeding is such a normal part of women’s lives around the world, it needs to be normalised in India, too.”
Neha has urged mothers to share their breastfeeding stories with her. The actress is taking this small step to make a big change in the world. We hope the world becomes a better place for moms after this. Better facilities and monumentally fewer judgements are the need of the hour.
