The Big Bang Theory spinoff, Young Sheldon, is nearing its end, which implies some bittersweet consequences for the main characters. With only two more episodes remaining for the show to conclude, the 12th episode of the ongoing seventh season of Young Sheldon brings in the 'bitter' part when it concludes with the Cooper family receiving tragic news. As Mary Cooper (Zoe Perry) prepares her reluctant family for a family picture while awaiting her husband, George Cooper Sr (Lance Barber), to return from work, there is a knock at the door. Young Sheldon S7: Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik To Return As Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler for Series Finale!
Mary opens the door to find his coworkers Wayne and Tom standing there with serious expressions. It is then that they deliver the news to the family - George Cooper has suffered a heart attack. When a tearful Missy (Raegan Revord) asks if he is okay, no words need to be exchanged to know the answer is negative.
We can't forget Mary's shocked face or the usually unemotional Sheldon (Iain Armitage) falling into the chair in distress. Even if you are not a fan of Young Sheldon, it is hard not to feel misty-eyed at this scene. What's more, we are yet to see Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy's (Emily Osment) reactions, as they were not present when the heartbreaking news was delivered. We may have to wait for the next episode titled "The Funeral" (sob!) to witness that.
Now, if you have watched The Big Bang Theory, you would know this moment was bound to come. The CBS sitcom had Sheldon repeatedly referring to his father's demise due to a heart attack. However, since Young Sheldon altered George's character to the point of being unrecognisable - Sheldon's description of his father in TBBT did not paint a nice picture - there might be some who expected the spinoff not to touch on this plot development. Before we learn of the demise, George, Mary, and Missy were prepared to relocate to Houston, where he was supposed to take up coaching at a college. Sheldon was dismayed by the prospect of selling their house and made every effort to halt the sale, reluctant to part with his room, even though he was moving to California to study at Caltech. And, of course, the entire family, including Meemaw (Annie Potts), was poised for a family portrait, which will remain Mary's unfulfilled dream. Let's wait and see how the family adapts after George's funeral in the upcoming episode.
