Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai today finds Naira (Shivangi Joshi) on the stage alone as Adaa Khan asks her to call her husband to join her. Finally after sometime Kartik (Mohsin Khan) runs to the stage. The competition begins as some of Dadi’s friends taunt her saying Kartik will come out with flying colours as already Kartik is the one running behind his wife. Kartik has his hands shivering while he takes up the brush but Naira comforts him with a look and also Swarna chirps in saying he should paint her nails with the same love that he has for her.

Kartik goes on to paint. Adaa declares them the winners for the competition. Dadi is happy and Swarna thanks God for Dadi being happy about Kartik kneeling before Naira. Adaa goes on to explain that when a husband paints his wife’s nails he has to bend before her which is not seen as a good thing in their society. She asks the people who gives anybody the right to speak between a couple or tell them what kind of a relationship they should share.

Dadi is shaken by this and Kartik looks at Naira as his eyes ask her if she understood what he was trying to tell her which is that their relationship is just theirs and nobody has the right to comment on it. Later as they prepare for the next round which is where they would be given a paper in which they need to write down their heart’s desire and feelings for their partner and then read it out onstage.

Shubham decides to send the papers kept in the folders for them writing. He manages to sneak the papers into Kartik’s file but misses the chance to put it into Naira’s file. Luv and Kush see this and think that Shubham is planning some surprise. Kartik makes a drawing of their relationship that of sherni and mendak with I LOVE YOU written across and also Princess. Then he chances upon the divorce papers and he is shattered. Naira is confronted by Rajeshwari and Swarna. They ask her why it is so important for Naira to convince the world that Kartik is not henpecked. They make her understand that it is only her or Kartik who have any rights to comment on their own relationship and no one else.

Niara gets the point and hugs her mothers. Jiji tells Dadi that she would leave now and also makes her understand how both the persons in a relationship have equal importance. Later the show continues as Adaa invites the couples onstage but once again Kartik is missing. Later they are informed that Kartik withdrew from the competition. Naira is left heartbroken and we see an even more shattered Kartik stumbling on the road. Kartik thinks that Niara is wrong to have send him the divorce papers he thinks of their times together and cannot bear this phase of their life. Naira finds the torn drawing on the desk and wonders why he tore it. She then stumbles upon the divorce papers and is as shocked as Kartik.
