Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai begins with Dadi lashing out at Naira (Shivangi Joshi) who is shocked as she looks on at the divorce papers. Dadi blames Naira for making Kartik(Mohsin Khan) leave the competition and go away. Dadi says that they were almost winning the competition and Naira made them lose everything. She adds that she is relieved that Jiji left by the time or else their respect would have gone for a toss. Swarna gets angry at this and tells Dadi to be easier on Naira as she herself is so worried also that they should be thinking of both of them and not about the society.

Manish supports Dadi as he blames Naira and Kartik for whatever is happening. Luv Kush hiding behind a wall see the papers in Naira’s hand and they remember seeing the same with Shubham. Dadi asks Naira why she gave Kartik the divorce papers and at this, the two little ones step into Naira's rescue. They tell Dadi that they saw the papers with Shubham and also saw him putting the papers in Kartik’s folder. The family is left shocked as they look at Shubham who is already guilt-ridden and standing at a distance is left even more nervous.

Manish questions Shubham about this and he tries to explain his theory but Manish slaps him right across his face. Manish tells him that this is not a reel life and people do not react as he sees them react on TV. A shattered Kartik walks on the road as he thinks he cannot live without Naira. He thinks how he cannot imagine how Naira can think of a life without him. Naira is left shattered as she also sees a booking made by Kartik. She knows he is going somewhere and now she realises she might know where he is.

Kartik is river rafting in Rishikesh like old times when he used to get angry with Manish. He thinks how he wants to be at peace and this is the best place for that. He suddenly hears Naira calling him mendhak. He imagines her and jumps into the river but soon realises that he is still lost in her thoughts while running away from her.

Kartik reaches the Laxman bridge and so does Naira. Naira thinks of how Akshara had once found her there and hopes to find Kartik too. They miss each other though. Singhania family prays that like Akshara and Naira found their way to each other so should Kartik and Naira there in the town of Ganga.

Dadi along with Swarna and Rajeshwari talk about doing a pooja for Naira and Kartik. Dadi talks about a great pandit who is in the town and decides to meet him regarding this. Naitik and Manish are though of the opinion that they should rather be with Naira in her quest for Kartik. They pray that soon the lovebirds find their way to each other. Shubham sits guilty of what he did and thinks about how his intention was good for Kartik as well as himself.

Naira meets the family and tells them that she does not need the help of the police as she herself needs to convince Kartik. As they attend pooja by the Ganga ghat Naira sees Kartik too at a distance. Kartik looks at her but hides away as she screams to him. The family asks Naira to complete the pooja as they do not see Kartik anywhere. Naira cannot keep still and runs to the place where she saw him. She slips as she runs and as she is about to fall Kartik holds her and hugs her.
