Yeh Hai Chahatein First Episode Review: This Sargun Kaur Luthra-Abrar Qazi Starrer That Questions Harsh Societal Norms, Is A Much Needed Drama In Today's Times
Yeh Hai Chahatein is a show about how while society never looks down upon a widower or divorced man with a child who wants to remarry, it definitely frowns and judges a woman in the same position with a child.
Star Plus' much-loved show Yeh Hai Mohabbatein's spin-off, Yeh Hai Chahatein went on-air today and here is the first episode review. However, before we get into the nitty-gritty of Ekta Kapoor's next drama, the show, just like its parent version, deals with an issue less discussed but very prevalent in society and also questions beliefs and practices surrounding it. Starring Abrar Qazi and Sargun Kaur Luthra as Rudraksh and Preesha, the show's first episode has given us lots of expectations already. The story starts with Ishita (Divyanka Tripathi) and Raman's (Karan Patel) remarriage where her cousin Preesha is invited along with her family. Ishita asks Preesha to start finding a partner for herself and suggests that she attend the 'Var Vadhu Sammelan' that her friend Bubbles is attending. Preesha walks into the function with her friend, for it to be rudely interrupted by rockstar Rudraksh Khurana, who is rehearsing in the same hotel. Preesha goes to scold him but returns back on not finding him, only for Rudraksh to enter the hall and question them on who disturbed his rehearsals. Preesha stands up to the rude rockstar and the duo get into a war of words. Rudraksh misunderstand Preesha and berates her for taking a plug from his rehearsal hall, when a little girl steps forward and confesses that she has his plug.
The scene then shifts to Preesha's house where the little girl's father and grandmother come to ask for Preesha's hand in marriage. But on finding out that Preesha has a 7-year-old son Saraansh, they refuse the alliance and insult Preesha, saying that nobody will accept a single mother as their daughter-in-law. However, Preesha and her father berate the woman for having such double standard thoughts, to which the woman says that this is the societal norm.

Like we already knew, Yeh Hai Chahatein is a show about how while society never looks down upon a widower or divorced man with a child who wants to remarry, it definitely frowns and judges a woman in the same position with a child. The show also rallies behind proving to everyone that women aren't oppressed or becharis anymore and come what may, can live a life with their heads held high in the society. Kudos to Ekta Kapoor for bringing to life a show whose concept is relatable AF to a majority of women in this country. Yeh Hai Chahatein has all of our blessings.
