Speaking more about the tragic accident that claimed her life, the incident happened when she was traveling with her fiancé, Jay Gandhi, who was driving the car and it crashed when he was trying to tackle a narrow turn and the car fell into the valley. However, there have been some contradictions about whether Vaibhavi was wearing a seat-belt when the accident happened.

JD Majethia, who was the producer of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and was the first to confirm her demise, had spoken to the paparazzi at her funeral, While giving details of what happened, he claimed that the actress wasn't wearing a seat-belt. He said, "“She was in Himachal with her fiance. They were to marry in December. Their car was at a turn and the road was quite narrow. They stopped to let a truck pass. As the truck was passing them, it nudged the car and it slid into the valley. It toppled and she was not wearing a seatbelt."

However, Vaibhavi's fiance, who survived the accident, has a different version to say. Speaking to ETimes, he said, "There is a notion that you speed on road trips, but that was not the case. Our car was standing still and waiting for the truck to pass. I am not in a state to talk much, but I wanted to ensure that don’t assume that we were not wearing seat belts or were speeding." Vaibhavi Upadhyaya Funeral: JD Majethia, Gautam Rode Attend Last Rites of the Sarabhai vs Sarabhai Actress.

Even her brother Ankit denied that they weren't wearing seatbelts during the accident, saying there were injuries of the belt on her body and this was confirmed in the post-mortem report.

Meanwhile Sakshi Verma, Superintendent of Police, Kullu, didn't mention anything about the seat-belt when giving a statement to PTI. She had said, "Vaibhavi tried to get out of the vehicle through the window and sustained a head injury which proved fatal. She was rushed to Banjar Civil Hospital where the doctors declared her dead." Whoever is telling the truth, we are not sure, but it is wrong to play blame games without knowing the whole facts.
