At the time of writing this article, there is just one more episode to go for season 4 of The Boys. And it will be one hell-breaker of a season finale episode going by how things kinda ended in episode 7. There is some (thankfully) inferred human-cephalopod intimacy, disgusting doppelgangers, a brutal murder, a rough amputation and a sex scene that ends with a WTF twist! There were also some major character development scenes, like A-Train (Jessie T Usher), finally choosing the right side (though we are not betting him to survive the next episode) and a friendly reunion between Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) and Frenchie (Tomer Capone). ‘The Boys’ Season 4 Episode 6: From Homelander’s ‘Milk’ Fetish to That ‘Fight Club’ Twist, 7 WTF Moments From the New Episode That Left Us Gagged, Shocked and Stunned!
After the controversially twisty events that happened at Tek-Knight's mansion in the previous episode, The Boys S4E7 saw Homelander (Antony Starr) keep Sage (Susan Heyward) at bay while enjoying the bootlicking of Firecracker (Valorie Curry) and use her to find the 'leak'. Butcher, meanwhile, gets Frenchie released so that he can help the captured Sameer Shah (Omid Abtahi) in the production of the supe-killing virus. They also try to get hold of a mystery assassin who could kill the President, and that person turns out to be a bizarre superhero. And oh yeah, Christmas is here, and Vought has a X-mas special puppet video featuring Ryan (Cameron Crovetti), that doesn't go the way Homelander intended.
In this feature, we look at the moments that happened in The Boys episode that made us go WTF, which range from darkly humorous to understandably yucky to brutal and gory. Needless to say, MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!
1. The Deep's 'Octopussy' Moment
The Deep (Chace Crawford)'s sexual obsession with sea creatures has been a running gag throughout the series, and his latest partner is his octopus, Ambrosius. Voiced silkily by the great Tilda Swinton, the octopus returns in the seventh episode, as near-naked Deep is seen reading a book to the mollusc, which is resting beside him after what seems to be a post-coital moment. The octopus uses its tentacles to tickle Deep's gills and tells him his tongue is 'like an outboard motor'! Later in the episode, Butcher (Karl Urban) even mocks Deep by asking, 'Sure you are not too busy tongue-lashing your octopussy'. BTW, while we are aware of the sexual innuendo, Octopussy is also the name of a James Bond movie.
2. The Mystery Assassin
The mystery assassin that Butcher, Starlight (Erin Moriarty) and Hughie (Jack Quaid) seek turns out to be a supe who can shape-shift. But it is the manner in which she shapeshifts that is truly in The Boys trademark disgusting style. Unlike the smooth manner in which X-Men's Mystique changes her appearance, the shape-shifter of The Boys takes a patch of skin from the person she takes the appearance of and then proceeds to peel off her own skin in a very bloody and squelching manner. The shape-shifter returns later in the episode in its biggest twist.
3. Webweaver Destroyed
Webweaver (Dan Mousseau) is easily one of the most revolting supes we have seen in the show, and his appearance in the episode truly lives upto that. When Firecracker wrongly produces him before Homelander as the 'leak', the supe keeps excreting web-fluid from his other hole much to Homelander's disgust. When Webweaver admits his mistake, Homelander ends up tearing him apart. Even Firecracker was terrified by the scene.
4. The Deeps Kills His 'Lover'
The second murder of the episode takes a darkly comic turn after The Deep, in a fit of insecure anger, smashes the glass aquarium of his octopus lover when she tells him she knows of his trysts with Sage and taunts him for it. The anguished Deep sits outside the room, as we hear Ambrosius choking to her slow demise, but it is how she takes long pauses between each of her dying breath where the episode finds its wicked humour. Also, fantastic voice work by the ever-formidable Ms Swinton there.
5. A-Train Outs Himself as the Hero
After The Deep and Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell) - who Butcher learns can now speak and also fly - ambushes Butcher and Starlight in their hideout and proceeds to nearly kill them, A-Train comes to their rescue, with MM (Laz Alonso), revealing himself to be the leak. This revelation leaves Homelander shattered when he learns of it, so we don't have much hope of A-Train surviving the season. Still, it is interesting to see A-Train, who was the first supe to show in the first episode of The Boys that supes are not that good, turning his arc to be one of the good guys now. The Boys Season 4 Censored by Prime Video India? Scenes of B*tthole, Orgy Either Blurred or CGI-ed for Desi Viewers.
6. Sage Gets Fired and Exposed
Homelander fires Sage for not telling him that A-Train was the leak when she reveals she knew about it beforehand. Before leaving, it is also revealed that she has been two-timing the new 'bros', The Deep and Black Noir. Much to Deep's embarrassment, he finds out that Sage doesn't need to lobotomise herself to have sex with Black Noir.
7. Frenchie Amputates Kimiko's Leg
Sameer manages to create a virus and break his bindings, but before he can escape, he first injects the virus into Kimiko's leg and then runs off. A perplexed Frenchie tightly ties her leg to stop the spread of the virus before he proceeds to amputate the infected leg with a handsaw, shown in gory detail. Thankfully, the virus hasn't spread, and the last we saw of Kimiko, a small stump is growing from the amputated part.
8. Ryan Stands Up for Christmas Spirit
Ryan starred in a puppet-special Christmas special where the song tells the viewers to inform the authorities if anyone near them has an er... 'anti-national' voice. Ryan is unhappy about the song telling kids to report their parents, and towards the end, he stops the play on live television and tells the camera, much to Homelander's consternation, that this is now the Christmas spirit his dead mother taught him. While Homelander looks pissed, Butcher, who also watched the episode, feels vindicated in his belief in Ryan.
9. Hughie Has Sex With Wrong 'Starlight'
Near the end of the episode, Hughie is lying on his bed when Annie comes wearing her Starlight uniform. The two proceed to have sex, after which Hughie is seen sleeping blissfully while a nude Annie walks out of the bed and opens a locker to take something out of it. Her eyes change for a moment, confirming it to be the shapeshifter. The real Annie, meanwhile, is chained somewhere unknown, having been kidnapped by the shapeshifted disguised as the woman who took a selfie with her at the bar.
