When it comes to television, DC has an edge over Marvel when it comes to delivering hit content (it's the reverse on the big screen). Many of their shows like The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, Black Lightning, Legends of Tomorrow, Gotham, Titans are enjoying decent, if not chart-topping, ratings on the small screen. Joining these shows is an interesting take on one of DC's more unusual comic book outings, Swamp Thing. Comic fans know the character as the man-plant thing that acts a sort of vigilante against evil men, even though his looks don't give a very good impression. With the new show, DC looks to tap on the horror element of the superhero property. The trailer of Swamp Thing, that has been recently dropped, manages to establish the spooky nature of the show, with a couple of jump scares.
The trailer doesn't show much of the Swamp Thing itself, except for a couple of glimpses towards the end. Instead, the focus is on Abby Arcane (Crystal Reed) who investigates the bizarre algae poisoning that is affecting the resident of a small town in Louisiana. Her investigations lead her to discover murkier elements that are happening in the swamps of the town, including a mythical creature whose intentions aren't very clear, as its origins.

Andy Bean of Power fame plays Alec Holland, who becomes the Swamp Thing in the series (Derek Mears plays the character in the man-plant avatar). As for the other lead, Crystal Reed, she had earlier appeared in Gotham too, albeit as a different character (Sofia Falcone).
Interestingly, Swamp Thing will find its way to DC's streaming service, DC Universe, instead of making it to a channel. The show will start streaming on May 31.
